The views of the desert are serene, beautiful, and private inside the conservation reserve. The food was outstanding and covers most ethnic choices. If you can afford it, you cannot get more value for your money.

Also, luxurious as the standrads of the suites provided are high and are nicely decorated, a very good rrestaurant with organic sourcing and outstanding service with two daily exceurisons included in the rate.

You have also access to the reception bar, where you have included Tea, Coffee (Nesspresso) water and again newspapers and magazines. From 12:30 there is a lunch included from Set Menu, which actually has a lot of options to choose from. Also Tea, Coffee, water and soft drinks included during lunch, which was fantastic. As all the rooms have private pool, the main pool felt very private, only uncomfortable thing was the flies, but it has nothing to do with the hotel.

Daniel MolloyAfter several days of hiking and driving across the Dubai desert, we boarded a hot-air balloon at sunrise to take in the landscape from above. I was captivated by the plays of light from the morning rays of sun over the repeating patterns of undulating dunes. It was like the desert was alive with motion, with sand waves mimicking the swell of the sea extending as far as the eye could see. This single tree appeared in the arid earth as a steadfast symbol of life in impossible conditions—a lone survivor in a vast ocean.

Jean-Claude EtterWe stayed for 3 nights at Al Maha and really enjoyed it. The first thing to get over is the price. Yes, Al Maha is up there in budget terms, but you have to factor in that it is a full board, all inclusive luxury resort. The only thing you will pay for is alcohol and sodas, and spa treatment. Everything else, 3 generous meals, afternoon tea and snacks, and outdoor activities are all included. It can only be that way given the location, but it helps somewhat to rationalize the rates. Al Maha is located 45 min west of Dubai in a 220 km2 reserve. There is nothing but desert beauty as far as the eye can see. The resort itself is a 40 suite compound in a sort of oasis (water actually comes from underground, not from desalination plants on the coast). The suites are spacious bungalows with individual pools, spread apart in a large compound. We were in 33 which is really nicely located and offers a superb view. The suites are not really suites, but very large bedrooms with gigantic beds, comfortable bathrooms and a little separate coffee/area. The resort is 19 years old so not everything is brand new or in super duper condition, I would call it rustic luxury. Very comfortable still. Food is generously served and in general of good quality. Not the last word in gastronomic refinement, but good nonetheless. The activities proposed are really enjoyable as long as you are a morning person. This is the desert, you have to make the most of the hours where heat is manageable. Some like the camel ride border on touristy, but the falconry presentation was really breathtaking, the offroad ride in the dunes good fun, and the sundowner champagne sunset memorable. We also enjoyed the proximity of birds, gazelles and oryx, it reminded us a bit of the Andaman in that way. Where Al Maha strikes a really powerful note is in the friendliness of staff. Not always at the pinacle of style, but genuinely nice and devoted, providing a personal experience that really stands apart from the larger luxury resorts. Everyone is really nice and friendly. Resort management generously accomodated our request to stay till 10pm to catch our night flight, with complimentary use of the resort facilities, and a generous last meal where several items were not charged. If there is a place where you wont feel nickel and dimed, it is there. An expensive stay ? For sure, but a memorable one, in many ways. We would warmly recommend it to anyone who can afford it and wants to discover the beauty of the desert.

Vicky KingWe had a wonderful time there. The staff were very pleasant and attentive especially Shahzab who took us on our Safari Drive, Dune drive and early morning palm tree walk. We learnt so much about conservation in Dubai and the wildlife there. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the menu well thought out. I would say we had one of our best meals in the UAE in the hotels only restaurant The only downside was that the drains in the shower room and toilet were not very effective and was quite smelly in our villa. Apart from that we love it there and will return
